As indicated by its English name (CoolGlide) the handheld head produces a calming and refreshing sensation as it glides over the skin. When the light pulse is applied, some patients experience a slight pinching sensation or gentle stinging. Generally no anaesthesia or pain treatment with analgesics is required; nevertheless some patients prefer to have topical anaesthesia when sensitive areas of the body are undergoing treatment.

Generally laser depilation is applied to small areas, such as the armpits, groin and face. For extensive areas, such as women’s legs and men’s backs, in a fast and safe manner, photo depilation is indicated.

In the majority of areas, 3 to 6 sessions are required. Nonetheless, the number of treatment sessions to obtain optimum and permanent depilation with CoolGlide is affected by several factors, such as the thickness of the hair, treatment area and growth cycle of the hair. An interesting fact is that not all the hairs grow at the same rate and that they go through three different phases: growth, regression and rest. The depilation treatments using laser CoolGlide accomplish the effect by deactivating those hairs which are in the active growth phase when the treatment is applied.

Immediately after the treatment with CoolGlide the treated area may present a slightly red and inflamed appearance. After 3 to 7 days following treatment it may seem that the hair is growing again. In fact these visible hairs are being cast out as the result of the treatment, not growing again. Between treatment sessions the patient should not use wax or tweezers depilation although shaving is allowed.
